March Reading Month

MARCH NEWSLETTER FROM SUPERINTENDENT- ELIZABETH FAIRBANKS

Dear ILS Guardians/Parents:

Happy March is Reading Month! This month-long celebration of literacy is a valuable opportunity to emphasize the importance of reading in the lives of our students. Throughout the month of March, our IL Elementary will be hosting a variety of activities and events aligned to "CAMP OUT and READ" designed to engage and inspire our students to immerse themselves in the world of literature. In our newsletter, you can find the calendar of events for our March reading month. Save the date for a Pre-K through 12th grade reading day on Tuesday, March 12th. All district students will be participating.

I also want to take this opportunity to address an important aspect of our academic calendar: standardized testing. Our testing period starts on Tuesday, April 9th where our 8th and 11th graders will be testing SAT and PSAT. Throughout the spring both the elementary and secondary will implement a variety of measures to create a supportive testing environment and help students feel confident and prepared. This includes providing appropriate accommodations for students with special needs, offering practice tests to familiarize students with the format and content of the assessments, and providing needed snacks and breaks throughout test sessions. Each building will be communicating testing schedules. If you have specific questions, please contact the elementary or secondary offices.

We encourage you to support your son or daughter to approach standardized testing with a positive attitude and a growth mindset. These assessments provide valuable opportunities for students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills, and we have every confidence that our students will rise to the occasion and showcase their abilities.

Thank you for your continued support of our district's literacy initiatives and spring testing. We look forward to seeing the enthusiasm and excitement as we begin spring of 2024.
